Getting ready for Christmas

This year we have been making Snowmen for our main Christmas decorations and everyone is taking part in making their own. The Snowmen are made using balloons, tied together for head and body. Cover the balloons with paper mache, we used wallpaper paste as this holds better on the balloons. Add a few layers and let dry then go over again with more layers, then dry. The body and head should feel firm and not dent. Once complete make a mixture of white paint with PVA glue, this gives a firm bond. Then add cotton wool for the body and decorate your snowman as you wish. We have used hand knitted scarfs here and buttons for eyes and on body. The carrot nose is made from felt and stuffed with cotton wool. The mouth is felt cut using a hole punch. The hats are made from black card and decorated with stickers, we used last years that we got from craft shops. The photo does the project no justice for they look beautiful in person and hope you all give this project a try. It can be used as a group project as well as indvidual.
